WordPress

The WordPress website says it best:

“WordPress is a state-of-the-art publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.”

WordPress was built for blogging, but not long ago the ability to add pages, not just posts was added and developers are all over it. For good reason. It’s the ideal platform for small business websites because:

  • It’s open source code, so lots of people have invented some AMAZING plug-ins. So it should be pretty inexpensive for you to do some pretty sophisticated stuff.
  • Control. You can have total control over your own content. Add pages, upload images without paying a web developer.
  • Blogging is built right into your site, so you don’t have to put up a separate domain and make it look like your site.
  • Search engine benefits galore. We switched a site from a traditional platform to WordPress and within a month we had tripled the traffic. Of course we also added a lot of content and did some keyword research which we utilized in optimizing the content headers and blog posts.
  • There are 2000 out of the box “themes” to start with and it’s all built in Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) so it’s really easy to change the look and feel and have a professionally designed site up in no time at all. Or you can custom design to look like anything you’d like.
