Blogging

The concept of blogging has to be one of the most misunderstood and therefore missed opportunities out there today.

The misconceptions are that:

  1. Blogging is for non-business purposes (kids mostly).
  2. Blogging is only effective if people read it and comment on it.
  3. Blogging opens the door for people to say things on your own site that you would never publish.
  4. Blogging takes too much time.

Blogging is excellent for business because:

  • You are establishing yourself as an authority on the web in a particular area by providing free and useful information and resources. This boosts the search engines’ trust in you and all that you publish as well, therefore having a positive effect on your traditional web site as well, or the page content on your WordPress site.
  • Blogs are indexed by the search engines more often than static websites.
  • You are constantly accumulating more relevant content for the search engines to find, or for other sites seeking content to link to.

Although a popular blog that people subscribe to, read and comment on is certainly desirable on many levels, just having the content and link to your site out there can be extremely helpful to your search engine rankings.  Remember, blogging is powerful, but creating a popular blog takes time and patience (and lots of writing).

You can monitor comments on your blog if you are worried about publishing unsavory or spammy content.   You can have as much or little control as you like.

Blogging can be time consuming, but it doesn’t have  b.e.  I schedule 3 half hour blocks of time in my week to write blog posts and read and comment on other blogs.  That’s really all you need.

The benefits of blogging are:

  • Constant fresh content on your site (you can even rotate your recent posts onto your home page of your static web site to keep your home page fresh)
  • Great for creating high quality one way, inbound, relevant links to your site
  • Establishing yourself as an authority on the web
  • Open communication with your clients, fans, prospects, etc.
  • It’s FUN!  Seriously, once you get started it’s hard to stop!

At KizmeTech, we will develop your blog right into your site so there’s no need to have a separate URL, apply your design to another site that uses different technology than your traditional site, or maintain your website and blog content in two different places.  Now that’s a sustainable concept!
